Friday: Mercedes can do better
Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton were rather pleased with their first day at Spa, even though everything wasn't perfect. However, both Mercedes drivers know they still have time to fine-tune their cars' settings, and they remain optimistic.
Nico Rosberg – 5th and 9th:
« It’s great to be back on the Spa circuit, especially since our car is more competitive this year, and I think I can feel real improvement when driving through the fast corners here. I’m not sure where we stand compared to the others, but it seems there’s going to be a real challenge, and obviously, it’s a different track from the last race. The day went well for us and it could be an interesting weekend, even more so with the mixed weather conditions expected. »
Lewis Hamilton – 15th and 12th:
« We have work ahead of us tonight to get the car right, but overall today was a good start to the weekend. The car behaves very differently here with low downforce settings compared to the last race, and we need to improve certain areas to address our balance issues. We were able to do some long runs today and that’s the most important for the race. We have time to make the necessary changes, so I’m confident we will see an improvement tomorrow. »
