Sunday: Pérez’s drive-through costs McLaren points
At McLaren, it's Jenson Button who delivers the best performance, finishing 6th and bringing valuable points to the team for the Constructors' Championship, where they are now ranked fifth. Meanwhile, Sergio Pérez unfortunately received a drive-through penalty following an incident with Grosjean and only managed to secure 11th place.
Jenson Button – 6th:
« We tried to adopt a one-stop strategy at the start of the race, and we had to switch to a two-stop strategy later in the race. Our pace wasn’t as good as the cars in front of us, so we couldn’t really chase them at the end of the race. That said, it was a good race for us, as always it was really fun to drive on this magnificent circuit. I really enjoyed driving the car today. In terms of performance, there was a slight improvement, so we should be satisfied with the progress we’ve made. Okay, there are still improvements to be made in terms of pace, but the good news is that we know which areas to focus on. I’m looking forward to Monza where I hope we can take another step. We are not going to fight at the front; on the contrary, we are focusing on ourselves to gradually understand the car better and improve things progressively. »
Sergio Pérez – 11th:
« My race started quite well, I managed to gain a few positions at the beginning, then a bit more in the first 10 laps, and at that moment things were looking pretty good, I was happy with the car’s balance and we were on a good strategy. Then came the drive-through, and after that, it was harder to score points. I am unhappy with what happened with Grosjean and disappointed for the team. These things are always difficult, but the McLaren team spirit is incredibly strong and now we’re just going to move on. What we need to do now is look forward to Monza and do our best to make up for the points we missed here at Spa. »
