Saturday: Red Bull locks the front row in Monza
Sebastian Vettel secured pole position at Monza, the 40th of his career and the 50th for Red Bull. He leads his teammate Mark Webber for an all-Red Bull front row, with the Austrian team hoping to capitalize on these strong positions to score big points in the race tomorrow.
Sebastian Vettel – 1st and 1st:
« We did not expect to be so strong here, with our two cars on the front row. It’s thanks to all the work done by everyone at the factory, they’ve worked very hard; we’ve had years where we had a good car, but not a car that was competitive with low downforce, so on this point, we’ve done our homework well. We’ve had ups and downs on this circuit, but this year it’s rather an up so far! The car is nice, but we’ll see what we can do tomorrow; we don’t earn points today. »
Mark Webber – 3rd and 2nd:
« After yesterday, we thought we could fight for the front row, but you never know as we saw in Belgium, and today the grid is a bit mixed up. But overall, we stayed strong and focused on ourselves. The guys did an excellent job; it’s not an easy track to get a good lap. This result is the maximum for the team and I did my best today as well; Seb has always been very strong here and he’s hard to beat. I hope I can have a good race tomorrow. »
