Adrian Sutil loses three places on the grid
The FIA has finally made its decision: Adrian Sutil is found guilty of impeding Lewis Hamilton in Q2. As a penalty, he loses three places on the grid. He will start 17th.
Adrian Sutil and Lewis Hamilton have not been the best of friends since the infamous 2011 Chinese Grand Prix and the subsequent trial. Today’s incident is unlikely to improve matters: if the FIA acknowledges that the German did not intentionally slow down the Englishman in turn 11 – the Parabolic – during his last attempt in Q2.
She reminds him that it is his responsibility as a driver to pay attention to what is happening behind him. This maneuver had prevented Lewis Hamilton from doing better than 12th, despite having secured four consecutive pole positions.
This penalty will therefore have no consequence for the Mercedes driver since he was already classified ahead of the Sahara Force India driver. Sutil had set the 14th fastest time and will therefore start from the 17th position tomorrow. This allows Pastor Maldonado, Paul di Resta, and Esteban Gutiérrez to each gain a place.
