Kovalainen in contention for a seat at Caterham
As rumors swirl for the 2014 transfers, Tony Fernandes, owner of Caterham F1, announces that Heikki Kovalainen, the team's reserve driver, is still in the running for a possible seat in the team in 2014.
Caterham is evaluating the options available for its 2014 lineup. While Charles Pic has his contract for 2014 in hand, the question of the second driver arises. Giedo Van der Garde has not particularly impressed since the start of the season, but he has the advantage of being backed by major sponsors, including the ready-to-wear brand McGregor.
Tony Fernandes, who is very close to the Finn, nevertheless admits today that the Kovalainen option remains possible for 2014.
« It’s no secret to anyone: I am close to Heikki, so we will see. I will let the team decide who they want, and it has to be their choice in the end. It would be foolish to decide everything now, because many things can happen between now and the end of the season. »
Fernandes also wanted to highlight the excellent work of his current pair of drivers.
They don’t have Heikki’s experience, but Giedo and Charles are hardworking. They push hard, work hard, and I can’t blame them. They’re not the type to complain and moan, saying, “give me a faster car.” I’ve seen many more experienced drivers criticize the car when things aren’t going well.
