Sauber is optimistic about its room for improvement
The two Sauber drivers - Nico Hülkenberg and Esteban Gutierrez - are satisfied with their first day in Mokpo. The track is pleasant, the conditions were too, but they both believe they have a strong margin for improvement tomorrow based on the adjustments they can make with their engineers this evening. Verdict during the qualifications.
Nico Hülkenberg – 11th and 14th:
We were quite happy with the car this morning and found a good rhythm. The session this afternoon was a bit more difficult, mainly due to the heavy traffic on track. I couldn’t find the space to do good stints and I think there’s still room to improve our times with the soft tires. So it was a bit more challenging performance-wise this afternoon. We will analyze the situation now. I don’t think we’ve shown all our capabilities and I’m confident for the rest of the weekend.
Esteban Gutierrez – 14th and 13th:
« It was a very productive day. We tried different things on the car with the aim of adapting to this track. It’s always a challenge because you have to deal with the first sector which is fast, while in the second and third sectors there are more turns and thus you need more downforce. The track itself is really great and even more than I thought. It’s fun to drive; we have a bit of all types of turns represented here. The first session this morning allowed me to properly learn the track and in the second, I was able to focus on adjusting the car, particularly on the balance. There’s still room for improvement before tomorrow’s qualifying. »
