Saturday: Sebastian Vettel puts Red Bull on pole position
Sebastian Vettel once again dominated the qualifying in South Korea. Mark Webber set the third-fastest time but will have to start only 13th due to the penalty inherited from post-race incidents in Singapore.
Sebastian Vettel – 1st and 1st
It was very close today. I did a very good lap in Q3 on my first attempt. I found it would be tough to do better. On my second attempt, I caught up with Kimi during my warm-up lap and didn’t have time to leave some space. Fortunately, my first lap was good enough. The Mercedes were performing well and seem comfortable in the second sector. We are good in the first sector this year, which is a surprise since it’s mostly straights. We’ve improved the car compared to yesterday because I wasn’t entirely satisfied after the second session. From a weather standpoint, we should be comfortable in either dry or wet conditions tomorrow. It’s not clear if we will have rain from the typhoon or not, but we will see what happens.
Mark Webber – 2nd and 13th
« We had to slow down the car a bit for the qualifications. Not by much, but it was about finding the compromise between the qualifications and tomorrow’s race. I’m quite satisfied. I could be two positions ahead, but that would have meant, with my penalty, that I would be 11th instead of 13th. It was a pretty tight qualification with the two Mercedes, Seb, and me. Tomorrow’s race will be interesting. I will be far back, but we will fight to climb up. I think we have improved the car in some areas compared to yesterday. »
