Friday: The Ferrari not competitive enough for the moment
Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa are quite happy with their first day of testing, but they know that performance is not yet up to par and that they will have to work hard by tomorrow to be able to fight at the front during qualifying and the race in Japan.
Fernando Alonso – 6th and 10th:
We are not as competitive as we would like to be, and we must try to improve by making a number of changes that we already have in mind. Luckily, when I spun out, I didn’t ruin my tires; we also managed to use them with a lot of fuel on the long stints, even though we lost a few tenths right from the first lap. We hope to get a clear lap tomorrow and be ahead of these cars, like the Toro Rossos and the McLarens that we don’t want ahead of us, as was the case today.
Felipe Massa – 5th and 8th:
« Today, we have done everything we could and completed our program. It’s hard to know how to judge today because it’s only Friday and there are many cars that are very competitive. For tomorrow, I hope to have a faster car, which will allow us to fight with those ahead of us. We will clearly do our best to prepare for qualifying, but above all for Sunday’s race. It’s always nice to be at Suzuka on this fantastic track, which is one of the best we race on. »
