Saturday: Webber on pole for his final race at Suzuka in F1
Mark Webber was thrilled to have secured pole position today at Suzuka, even though he knows that without Vettel's KERS issue, it could have been a different story. The German driver, on the other hand, doesn't want to dwell on that and is pleased with his 2nd place.
Mark Webber – 1st and 1st:
« It’s a fantastic track and we always enjoy driving here. The laps weren’t too bad today to be honest, but you always want a little more here and there. Sebastian had an issue during qualifying. So it’s a bit of a ghost pole position if you will. Nevertheless, he did an amazing lap. But, I’m happy to be on pole; you have to seize opportunities when you can and put in good laps. It’s a wonderful farewell for me to be in pole position for my last time at Suzuka. It’s a superb circuit and I’ll never forget the first sector today. That’s what we, as drivers, seek and that’s the goal of our profession: driving is a true pleasure for us. »
Sebastian Vettel – 9th and 2nd:
« First of all, congratulations to Mark, I think he did a very good lap. We had a problem in qualifying, but I’m not a big fan of thinking that without this, with that, if, you know… it’s always unknown and we are in 2nd position. I’m happy with the result, a front row for the team, it’s great. The car was phenomenal today, especially in the first sector. You realize afterwards that the car was fantastic in these sequences and it’s not every day that the car feels so good and you can really attack at the limit. I enjoyed these qualifications today and I’m happy with the 2nd place. »
