Sunday: Beautiful Birthday Gift for Peter Sauber
On the occasion of Peter Sauber's 70th birthday, the two drivers had a superb race in Japan. After a great battle with the Ferraris, Nico Hülkenberg finished 6th. As for Esteban Gutiérrez, he scored his first points in Formula 1, thanks to a hard-fought 7th place against Nico Rosberg.
Nico Hülkenberg – 6th
« I think we did everything we could today. I was already surprised by the pace of the car going to the grid and it felt really good. Once again, I managed to keep both Ferraris behind me for a long time, even though it wasn’t enough as my tires gave up at the end of the race. We fought throughout the race. Just after my second pit stop, I was surprised to be able to pull away from Fernando, but he was probably saving his tires. It’s a great team result to finish 6th and 7th. Hopefully, it’s a nice birthday present for Peter Sauber. I’m quite confident about scoring more points in India. »
Esteban Gutiérrez – 7th
« I can finally be fully satisfied after a race. We worked a lot to get here. Even if the path was not easy, I think it was very solid. Over the last races, we have improved a lot. As I said yesterday, we have to stay optimistic and this is the result. Knowing that we can achieve something like this, you can truly envision the future, do your best, and attack. Even though the last laps were very difficult with Nico Rosberg behind me, overall, it was a great race. I want to thank the team who did a very good job today.
