Sunday: Button saves the day for McLaren
Despite a good start to the race, Sergio Pérez was unable to finish in the top 10 at the finish, primarily due to a late puncture. Jenson Button, on the other hand, managed to do so but not without difficulty; the Briton finished 9th, which allowed McLaren to further solidify its lead over Force India in the Constructors' Championship.
Jenson Button – 9th:
The first two stints of the race were quite complicated because I had a lot of understeer. It was my fault: on the lap to the grid, I felt I had too much front downforce, so I had the wing removed. That was the wrong thing to do – it created too much understeer, and I kept locking the front, which destroyed my front tires.
For the third stint, we added front wing, and the balance returned. At the end, the car was really good to drive – especially in my last stint with the mediums, which was a lot of fun, because I was able to catch up and overtake several cars.
In the final laps, I made a nice overtaking move on Paul [di Resta] on the outside of the chicane. I did the same move with Felipe [Massa], but he pushed me beyond the curb, so I ended up getting him on the straight. So it was an enjoyable end to the race, but a disappointing start.
Sergio Pérez – 15th:
« It was a really unfortunate afternoon for us. I really had no luck – things did not go our way today. In fact, I think it’s fair to say that everything that could have gone wrong, went wrong.
We had an incident with Nico [Rosberg] in the pit lane, slow stops, and then another incident with Nico, which caused a puncture – fortunately, it happened at the entrance of the pits. After a difficult race like this, all we can do is move forward. In two weeks, we will start again – I hope to have better luck in New Delhi.
