Sunday: Maldonado makes it a point of honor to outperform Bottas at Williams
The Williams drivers were not in the game today at Suzuka and finished far behind. Pastor Maldonado made it a point of pride to get ahead of his teammate Valtteri Bottas, overtaking him in the last chicane on the final lap, with a somewhat cavalier maneuver that forced the Finn to cut the chicane.
Pastor Maldonado – 16th:
It was pleasant to be able to attempt an overtake on the last lap to gain a position against my teammate. I feel that we slightly misjudged the strategy today and struggled to stay in the rhythm, but we managed to get 100% out of the car.
Valtteri Bottas – 17th:
At the beginning of the race, we didn’t seem too bad and managed to keep several cars behind us. At the end of the second stint and during the third, our pace seemed to drop, and we were not able to maintain our positions. As the tires were quite worn at the end, we struggled, so we could no longer fight.
