Listen to the sound of the 2015 Honda Turbo V6
The Japanese engine manufacturer unveiled the first sounds of its future F1 V6 Turbo engine through a YouTube video. Let's turn up the volume and listen to the purr of this beauty.
As a reminder, the Japanese V6 Turbo will initially be reserved for McLaren, who have already signed with Honda starting from the 2015 season. The Woking team will also be able to rely on the arrival of Peter Prodromou, chief aerodynamicist at Red Bull and who has already worked with Honda at McLaren between 1991 and 1992, to better understand this new engine.
Like its counterparts Mercedes, Renault, and Ferrari, the Honda V6 will have a displacement of 1600 cm3 and is expected to reach 15,000 rpm at full throttle. However, the Japanese engineers have yet to reveal any specific features of their creation, whether concerning the engine dimensions or the specifics of their energy recovery system.
It also seems logical that at least one other team should receive the engine from the Land of the Rising Sun: the rumor seems to point towards Lotus, even though nothing is confirmed. Ferrari remains the only V6 engine supplier that has not revealed the sound of the power unit.
