Sunday: Ferrari loses second place in the constructors’ standings in India
Ferrari is fighting for second place in the constructors' championship and lost a battle today at the Indian Grand Prix against Mercedes. Felipe Massa missed the podium, finishing in 4th place but was overtaken by Rosberg's Mercedes about ten laps before the end of the GP. Meanwhile, Alonso didn't score any points, with his race being disrupted right from the start, forcing him to pit on the first lap. Ferrari has 3 Grand Prix left to do better than Mercedes and Lotus.
Fernando Alonso – 11th:
« Today, the problem I encountered at the start compromised my entire race because I had to change my front wing immediately and make an extra stop, and I had very few overtaking opportunities. It was a fierce struggle. In front of me at the first corner, Webber hit someone and then swerved into me, and at turn 4 it was me who hit Button. I had a lot of difficulty turning right and had to go into the pits. Then, if you look at Webber’s race or Pérez’s, I think our strategy was good because when the others were pitting, those two were leading the Grand Prix. But it’s also true that it went well for those who started the GP on softs. »
« I must congratulate Sebastian Vettel because here, as in other sports, it’s always the best who wins. I’m a bit disappointed not to have scored any points today for the constructors’ championship, but we know we need to do better if we want to be second at the end of the year. We’ll need to be on the podium in the upcoming races. »
Felipe Massa – 4th:
« It was a great race and I am very happy that our strategy worked. I tried to manage in every stint, even on soft tires. I could have been on the podium, but some cars implemented a one-stop strategy like Grosjean, which would never have worked for us. I lost a position to Rosberg who pitted earlier for his second stop, but in any case, I am happy with what happened today where we made no mistakes. »
« We lost the second place in the constructors’ championship because the Mercedes were very strong today, but we all know what we need to do and that we will have to fight to reclaim our second place in the last three races. »
« I congratulate Sebastian Vettel because he deserves this title and everything that is happening to him. I am very happy for him. He is a good driver and a really nice guy. From today, his name will be etched alongside the best drivers in the history of F1 like Senna, Schumacher, and a few others.
