Sunday: Maldonado and Williams finish just outside the top 10
Pastor Maldonado and Valtteri Bottas aimed for a place in the top 10 today in the race at Abu Dhabi, but neither of the Williams drivers managed to achieve it, although the Venezuelan missed out by finishing 11th. However, both men are satisfied with the improved performance of the FW35.
Pastor Maldonado – 11th:
« Today, it was a very difficult race from a tire management perspective, but we did quite well nonetheless. I can clearly feel that the pace and consistency of the car have improved with the new aerodynamic package used this weekend, and I could feel the car getting better as the race went on. Unfortunately, I came out in traffic after my second stop, which meant I couldn’t really show the best pace we had, and in the end, I finished just outside the points. Overall, several positive points emerge from this weekend, which will help us for the next race. »
Valtteri Bottas – 15th:
« I don’t think that 15th place really reflects the pace we had today. My race was compromised on the first lap when I was passed by the Caterhams who had started on softs and therefore had more grip and were able to overtake me. Then, the mediums started to work, my race pace was good and I was able to fight with the cars around me. The positive from this weekend is that the car behaves much better and we have clearly made a step forward which is promising for the last two races. »
