Fernando Alonso will indeed be present in Austin

During the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, during the controversial overtaking of Jean-Eric Vergne, Fernando Alonso’s car took off on a curb. Although the Spanish driver finished the race, he had to undergo medical examinations following the impact. Indeed, the double world champion endured 25 G during this impact – which is double what a fighter driver experiences during a turn, for example.

If his participation in the United States Grand Prix was uncertain for a time – some observers even mentioning Bianchi taking his place – Alonso confirmed this Monday that he would indeed be present in Austin and would do his best to help Scuderia Ferrari in its fight for 2nd place in the constructors’ championship.

« I’m packing my bag for Austin, still some pain, but [I remain] enthusiastic and confident that I can help the team. I will try to give 100% as always!, » Alonso shared on his Twitter feed.

His commitment has also been praised by the head of the Reds, Luca di Montezemolo, in a statement published on Ferrari’s official website: “I am delighted to see that Fernando is so eager to give his all, even if he is not at his best. It shows how dedicated he is to us, and I am certain that his example will be an additional motivation for the entire team in their efforts to finish the season in the best possible way.”
