Facu Regalia drove in the McLaren simulator
Argentinian driver Facu Regalia, the 2013 GP3 Series runner-up, recently tested in the McLaren simulator and, according to some sources, he might even be linked to the British team in the future through its young driver program.
McLaren has decided to appoint Kevin Magnussen as a main driver for the 2014 season following his title win in Formula Renault 3.5, thus giving meaning to its young driver program, of which the Dane has been a part since 2010. This thus frees up a spot in the program, currently led by Stoffel Vandoorne, who hopes to follow in Magnussen’s footsteps and join F1 in 2015.
McLaren recently had Facu Regalia, this season’s GP3 vice-champion behind Daniil Kvyat who will drive for Toro Rosso in 2014, run in their simulator in Woking and according to *Italiaracing*, the Argentine could join McLaren’s young driver program in the coming weeks.
Regalia, who will turn 22 in less than a week, could thus benefit from McLaren’s support in managing his career and join the McLaren Young Driver Programme alongside the Belgian Stoffel Vandoorne (21 years old, present since 2013), the Dutchman Nyck de Vries (18 years old, present since 2010), and the British Ben Barnicoat (16 years old, present since 2010).
According to the Italian site, the Argentine also reportedly talked with the Sahara Force India team, well-known for helping beginners, as was the case for Nico Hülkenberg and Jules Bianchi who benefited from track time on Fridays during the Grand Prix when they were the third drivers for the Indian team.
