Sunday: Toro Rosso finishes at the edge of the points

The two Toro Rossos finish wheel to wheel at the end of the Austin race but only in 11th and 12th. Daniel Ricciardo thus lost the point for tenth place in the very last lap while Jean-Eric Vergne attempted an offset strategy to make up for missed qualifications.

Sunday: Toro Rosso finishes at the edge of the points

Daniel Ricciardo – 11th

« It was a tough end to the day, really tough. It seemed like we were going to be able to hold on until the flag to get the point for tenth place, but in the last five laps, I lost all the grip I had and saw the guys catching up to me. I tried to hold them off, but I didn’t have enough tires left to do it. It’s frustrating to finish so close, but I fought as best as I could and there was nothing more I could do today. It was very difficult to overtake at the beginning of the race when the cars were loaded with fuel, and it wasn’t easy to stay behind the car in front in the fast corners. So, we had to be patient. »

Jean-Eric Vergne – 12th [16th after penalty]

« The final result is nothing special but I think I had a good race. We had planned to make two stops but switched to only one tire change. In the second part of the race, I was told to manage my mediums well, but I was given the green light to attack with 15 laps to go. From that moment on, my race pace was pretty good. So I think I did a good job with the car we had. In the last lap, I tried to overtake my teammate in the first corner but it didn’t work and we went wide. I think he used a bit of KERS on the straight and I couldn’t pass him. I used all my KERS in the second straight to try to pass him under braking but Gutiérrez touched my rear wheel in corner number 12 and he tried to overtake me and we made contact. »
