Friday: Rosberg shines at Mercedes, Hamilton struggles more
Nico Rosberg made an appearance today in Interlagos by setting the fastest time in both practice sessions held in the rain. Lewis Hamilton was also at the forefront, but the Briton struggled more with his Mercedes in these wet conditions, yet he remains hopeful.
Nico Rosberg – 1st and 1st:
« Today, I got off to a good start for the weekend, and I was very fast in the rain even though we don’t know exactly how much fuel the other teams were running. Therefore, we have to look at the lap times with caution. But overall, I have good hopes that we can compete with the Red Bull this weekend. We all know that the weather always plays a big role here at Interlagos and can catch you off guard. We couldn’t run a lot, but the track is always nice and it was a pleasure to be on the track and find the limit in such challenging conditions. »
Lewis Hamilton – 2nd and 5th:
« The conditions were complicated today and it’s really unfortunate for the fans because they didn’t see much action on track. Obviously, it’s frustrating for us drivers to stay in the garage for so long but even more so for everyone who made the effort to come here to the circuit. We were able to drive a bit during the two sessions and that will be useful as the conditions for the rest of the weekend seem to be more or less the same. I find it a bit more difficult to be comfortable with the car in the rain, and that has really been the case all year for me, so we have work to do tonight to see where we can improve. I would rather have a dry weekend but it’s not in my hands. »
