Saturday: Toro Rosso stands out in the rain
The two Toro Rosso drivers managed to make it to Q3. Daniel Ricciardo will start 7th in his last race with the Italian team, just ahead of his teammate, Jean-Eric Vergne.
Daniel Ricciardo – 12th and 7th
« It was difficult today but since last year, we have often shown that we can be competitive. In the wet, it’s the best qualifying for the team in a long time, and I am very happy that both cars are in the top 8. I don’t think there was much between JEV and me today. Tomorrow? The weather will probably decide the story but, in any case, 7th is a very nice place to start. I will be motivated to convert today’s work into points tomorrow in my last race with Toro Rosso after two very happy seasons with the team. »
Jean-Eric Vergne – 6th and 8th
« I am happy for myself and for the team because having both cars in the top 8 is a very good result. We weren’t as fast as I expected because usually in other races this year, we have a very good car in the wet, but since Friday, I’ve had a bit more difficulty than usual in these changing conditions. However, even though qualifying wasn’t easy, starting 8th is very encouraging because it was difficult to get into Q2 at the start of the session because we didn’t plan our first stint well. After that, I managed a very good lap to move into the next part. Points are clearly my goal for tomorrow, and anything can happen with the rain. »
