Brazil: Chilton and Gutiérrez Reprimanded, Marussia Fined
The FIA imposed sanctions on Saturday in Brazil, with the Marussia team receiving a fine following the qualifying session, and Max Chilton and Esteban Gutiérrez each receiving a reprimand for an infringement during Free Practice 3.
Esteban Gutiérrez and Max Chilton were reprimanded by the FIA stewards at Interlagos at the end of yesterday for crossing the white line that marks the entrance to the pit lane.
During the free practice 3, both drivers returned to the pits by crossing this white line, which is prohibited, and the Marussia driver received his second reprimand of the year, while for the Sauber driver, it is his first of the season.
The Marussia team was also fined 5,000 euros for releasing its drivers into traffic at the start of Q1 when many drivers were waiting at the red light. Jules Bianchi consequently forced his way onto the track, notably causing Heikki Kovalainen to avoid him.
This weekend being the last round of the season, it shouldn’t pose problems for the various drivers reprimanded in Brazil and earlier in the year, as the regulations stipulate that the counters will be reset at the end of the season, and therefore after today’s race held on the Interlagos circuit. Additionally, the adoption of a “points license” system could modify the penalty scale.
