Ross Brawn takes a sabbatical year
After the official announcement of his departure from Mercedes AMG F1, the question remained: what would Ross Brawn do in 2014? The main party concerned put the rumors to rest today.
They sent him notably to Williams, which had a very difficult year in 2013, but Ross Brawn will not be in Formula 1 in 2014. The former strategist of the Scuderia Ferrari during the “Jean Todt / Michael Schumacher” period will take a sabbatical year, as he did in 2007 after leaving the Italian team.
Fishing session for Ross
It is known that the Englishman is a great fishing enthusiast, and he will undoubtedly take advantage of this break in his career to indulge in his great passion. However, Brawn is already thinking a bit about his future. He also stated in the columns of the Mirror: «I think that if I get involved in motorsport again it will be in Formula 1, but I am very open-minded. It will depend on what motivates me and what is offered to me.»
It is clear that F1 remains a central anchor in the life of the engineer who brought Ferrari, then Mercedes, back to the path of success. His Brawn GP interlude, on the ashes of Honda F1, left a memory of a missed opportunity for the Japanese, who may want to lure him to oversee their return as McLaren’s engine supplier in 2015. Until then, rumors will only continue to circulate about a potential return of one of F1’s major figures over the past 20 years.
