The Sauber C33 has been homologated by the FIA
The Sauber team announced that its 2014 challenger, the C33, has been homologated by the FIA - allowing it to participate in the winter testing sessions starting at the end of January.
The Sauber F1 team was the first to announce that it has a homologated chassis for the 2014 Formula 1 season. The Swiss team recently had its C33 successfully scrutinized by the International Automobile Federation (FIA).
« The chassis of the Sauber C33 has passed all the static and dynamic FIA tests and is officially homologated. The rear crash test, which is not part of the chassis homologation, will take place later, as usual, » explains the Sauber team on its Facebook page.
Having a homologated chassis is now important in Formula 1 because it is necessary to take part in the winter private testing sessions, which will begin on January 28 on the Jerez de la Frontera circuit in Spain. The Hinwil team is the first to have revealed this information, and it is likely that other teams will follow. For the moment, the C33 does not have an official presentation date—like its rivals—but it should not take long, even if some observers believe that most of the cars could be unveiled in Jerez just before the first winter tests.
