Official: Sutil will drive for Sauber in 2014

Not retained by the Sahara Force India team – which decided to hire Nico Hülkenberg and Sergio Pérez, Adrian Sutil nonetheless managed to secure a full-time F1 seat. The German driver has signed with the Sauber F1 team – thus making the reverse move of his compatriot Hülkenberg.

After a year with Spyker in 2007 and then five years with Force India – with an interlude in 2012 – Adrian Sutil has decided to embark on a new challenge for his 7th year as a Formula 1 driver. The German driver is thrilled to join the Hinwil team as it is something he has aimed for a long time.

« I am very happy that we found common ground. Even though I knew for a while where I wanted to go, in the end, the negotiations took a bit longer than expected. However, now I have one more thing to celebrate this Christmas season. I had been in contact with Monisha for a long time, and she always gave me the feeling that my qualities were well appreciated. After six good years of driving for Force India, with many great moments, it’s time for me to embark on a new challenge. I am determined to do my part to ensure a successful future with the Sauber F1 team. The long tradition of success in motor racing, combined with an impressive factory and one of the best wind tunnels in F1, has long fascinated me. Thank you to Peter Sauber and Monisha Kaltenborn for your trust, » said Sutil in the statement released by the Sauber team.

On the Swiss team’s side, there is also satisfaction as Sauber will benefit from Sutil’s experience for this year full of changes, as confirmed by Monisha Kaltenborn, the team director: “We are delighted to have been able to sign Adrian, especially as we have wanted to work with him for some time. Adrian already visited the factory at the end of September to see the facilities. Adrian is not only very fast, but he also brings a lot of experience, which is very important with the new regulations for next year. We welcome Adrian to the Sauber F1 team and hope for a successful collaboration.”

The details of the contract have not been disclosed, particularly concerning the duration of the partnership. However, it is highly likely that Sutil will bring along at least one sponsor, Medion, which has supported him since his F1 debut.

The name of Adrian Sutil’s teammate will only be known at a later date, according to the press release from the Hinwil team.
