Sutil wants to achieve podiums with Sauber
Adrian Sutil decided to change scenery in 2014, leaving Force India to join Sauber F1. The German driver hopes that this move will enable him to secure his first podium in F1.
Late last week, the Sauber F1 team announced the recruitment of Adrian Sutil for 2014. After six years with the Silverstone team – known as Spyker in 2007 and then Force India between 2008 and 2011, and in /f1/actualite/16733-officiel-sutil-pilotera-pour-sauber-en-2014.html, Adrian Sutil decided to change teams because he felt it was the right moment to do so.
« I felt it was the right time to change, and we worked hard for months to make it happen. It’s going to be an interesting experience to see how another team handles things, » Sutil said in an interview with the official F1 website.
He leaves the Indian team on good terms and shared that he had very good times over the years: « I had great times with Force India. They gave me the chance to come back – and it will always hold a special place in my heart! It’s clear that some people, who have become friends over the years, will be missed, but I am now thrilled to be with my new team. »
From now on, he is a Sauber driver, and it is to the Hinwil team that he will devote all his efforts with the goal of securing his first podium in F1: « I am convinced that we will experience moments filled with success – and I am looking forward to securing my first podium! Sauber has already achieved some podiums in the past, and that is exactly what I am aiming for. »
For the moment, the German is the only driver confirmed by Sauber, and when asked about his preferences for his teammate – who could be Esteban Gutiérrez or Sergey Sirotkin – Sutil was pragmatic: To be honest: it doesn’t matter to me. It should be the best and fastest teammate available!
The FIA has decided to implement new measures for 2014 – notably the doubling of points, a measure criticized by Sebastian Vettel – but Adrian Sutil believes it is not appropriate to dwell on these various points: “We must take things as they come! It makes no sense to waste too much time on fruitless discussions when you know you can’t change things. We will see at the end of the season what happens with all these changes – then it will be time to discuss whether it makes sense or not.”
Adrian Sutil also visited the Sauber F1 team earlier this week, particularly to have his seat molded for next season, as revealed by the Swiss team on their Twitter feed.
