Grosjean considers himself “one of the best F1 drivers”
Romain Grosjean has secured several podiums this season and he believes, through these results, that he has proven he deserves his place in the elite of F1.
After a complicated start in F1 with Renault alongside Alonso at the end of the 2009 season, Romain Grosjean was not retained by the French team for the following year. He then had to bounce back, first in GT, then in Auto GP, and finally in GP2 where he clinched the title in 2011.
This allowed him to regain a full-time seat for 2012 with Lotus F1, but after having difficult times upon his return to F1, with the highlight of his problems being a race ban following a collision at the start of the Belgian Grand Prix, Romain Grosjean worked on himself to resolve his issues with the help of a psychologist, among others.
This year, things went very differently, with 6 podiums in 19 races, and the Geneva native believes he has proven his worth, as he told ESPN: « I think I’ve proven that I’m one of the best drivers, and that’s how I see myself. It took hard work and tough moments to get there, but I’m proud of what I’m doing and I don’t think I could do more. »
He will be partnered with Pastor Maldonado next year, and Grosjean thinks he might have a hard time facing the Venezuelan: « We crossed paths several times in GP2, but I think he is very fast over one lap. When everything is in order around him and with the car, and he manages the situation, he can be very fast, as we saw last year at the Spanish Grand Prix. »
