The name of the future Ferrari chosen by the fans

No Formula 1 team has officially revealed the name of their 2014 car yet - though some are anticipated due to an incremental logic, RB10, F1 W05, E22, ... - at Scuderia Ferrari, they've chosen to stand out by offering the tifosi the chance to choose the name of the future car that will come out of the Maranello factory.

The name of the future Ferrari chosen by the fans

Unlike its rivals, Red Bull, Lotus, and Mercedes leading the way, the Ferrari team does not always name its single-seaters in a uniform and logical sequence—RB8, RB9, RB10 at Red Bull, E20, E21 at Lotus, for instance. The team from Maranello has regularly swapped the bland combination of F followed by the year as a car name for designations with a specific meaning.

This was notably the case in 2009, when Ferrari unveiled the F60 – a name given in tribute to the 60th Formula 1 season for the Maranello team. Similarly, in the 2011 season, with the Ferrari F150 – which eventually had to change its name to Ferrari 150° Italia since F150 is a registered trademark of Ford – it was a tribute to the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy. This year, Ferrari has done it again with the F138 – 13 for 2013 and 8 for the last year of the V8 engines – ahead of the switch to 1.6L V6 Turbo engines starting in 2014.

For 2014, things will be different because the Scuderia has decided to involve its fans in choosing the name of its future challenger, as explained on its website: The name of the Scuderia’s car for 2014? It will be chosen during the month of January by millions of Ferrari fans worldwide via the Internet. President Luca di Montezemolo made the announcement during the traditional pre-Christmas dinner with Italian motorsport media at the Fiorano circuit.
