Saturday: Alonso’s bright spell and Räikkönen’s grayness at Ferrari

Fernando Alonso (#14) – 3rd and 5th

The Spanish driver is satisfied with his qualification: « I think the fifth place is a good result in such a difficult qualifying session, especially considering it’s the first time we were driving on a wet track with the new car and also because from this position, a podium is possible which could earn us a lot of points. »

Indeed, the Asturian Bull is always comfortable in race condition. On this one, he believes that several variables need to be taken into account: « I don’t think fuel consumption changes much because by saving fuel, all cars lose half a second per lap. Furthermore, the weather will play a role tomorrow since the forecasts are uncertain. »

Kimi Räikkönen (No.7) – 7th and 12th [11th on the grid]

The Flying Finn is disappointed with his performance: « The qualification wasn’t easy today, mainly because of the traffic. At the end of Q2, I went into a slide damaging my front wing. In any case, I don’t think I could have improved my time, as I had reduced my speed knowing I wouldn’t make it to Q3. It’s a shame because compared to yesterday, we made several steps forward. On the wet track, we were fast, and I felt the car better. »

But he shows a philosophical attitude towards the race: « Tomorrow’s race will be tough, the weather is uncertain, and moreover, with the new regulations, it’s difficult to predict how things will turn out. But it’s only the first race of the year, so we will do our best to get a good result. »
