Friday: At Toro Rosso, Vergne enthusiastic and Kvyat studious
The STR9 is quite competitive this weekend. Jean-Eric Vergne is considering a possible presence in Q3. Daniil Kvyat is a bit further down the hierarchy.
Jean-Eric Vergne (No. 25) – 6th and 11th
The Frenchman is happy with his day: « I think we had an almost perfect Friday and I am really pleased with the car’s performance. »
He thinks that with a few additional tweaks, the rest of the weekend could be excellent: We just need to find the best solution for a few small issues, which could truly make us faster. We seem quite strong so far but by working hard tonight, I’m sure we’ll have a good car tomorrow and maybe fight for Q3.
Daniil Kvyat (No. 26) – 14th and 14th
The young Russian driver seems to adapt quite easily to his new environment: « Even though I have already raced at Sepang in Formula Junior, I must say that it’s one of the hottest days I’ve ever experienced, but I can’t say I struggled to handle this situation. »
For the single-seater itself, he is a bit more cautious: « I am not completely satisfied with the car’s setup. Tonight, we will review the data with the engineers in order to extract the maximum performance possible from our package for the rest of the weekend. »
