Friday: At Caterham, Kobayashi stuck in the garage, Ericsson relatively reliable
The regional team of the event is not having a restful weekend. Indeed, Kamui Kobayashi only managed to complete 5 laps while his teammate Marcus Ericsson, although he completed 55 laps, is not free from problems.
Kamui Kobayashi (No. 10) – 19th and no time
The Japanese driver experienced significant reliability issues with his car that prevented him from working: « In FP1, I completed my installation lap, but after three days, I encountered unexpected power cuts. I had to return to the garage to change the battery. Unfortunately, we found there was an oil leak when we removed the floor, which meant I couldn’t participate in FP2 at all. »
Marcus Ericsson (No. 9) – 17th and 20th
The Swede is quite satisfied overall despite traction and understeer issues: « 24 laps in the first session, it was better than in Australia. I was able to complete an almost normal program. I would say it was a pretty good session… In the second session, I was again able to complete a large number of laps despite some small engine cuts… »
However, he does not think in terms of performance but rather in terms of reliability: « It feels good to live a full Friday. With 55 laps on my counter today, it will obviously help us tomorrow, in FP3 and qualifying. »
