Sunday: Ferrari on the podium with Alonso 3rd, Räikkönen limits the damage
The Scuderia puts a car on the podium for the first time since the start of the season. Fernando Alonso delivers an impeccable race to finish third. Kimi Räikkönen, struggling, limits the damage by finishing 8th.
Fernando Alonso (No. 14) – 3rd
After a difficult start to the season, the Spaniard believes that this podium is a great breath of fresh air for the whole team, not forgetting the departing Domenicali: « I think this podium should be dedicated to Stefano since everything we do until July will be the result of his efforts. »
He believes he did everything he could: « I was on the edge throughout the race and I don’t think I could have done anything more. It’s a truly unique track, and now we have to use the long break before the next race to prepare as well as possible for any eventuality. »
Kimi Räikkönen (No. 7) – 8th
In trouble since the first free practice session, the Finn couldn’t make up for lost time: « This weekend was really difficult. From Friday morning, I had issues that we couldn’t completely solve, and today in the race, I didn’t get the result I wanted. The start was good, I gained two places but couldn’t gain more because I just didn’t have the pace, and I had no grip at the front or rear. In my last stint with new tires, the car behaved better but then, as the tires degraded, the situation became complicated again. »
Despite everything, he tries to take away the positive: Today, we are bringing back valuable points thanks to the efforts of the entire team. Fernando’s result is very encouraging and proves that we are heading in the right direction.
