Sunday: Kobayashi and Ericsson just reliable for Caterham
The Malaysian team manages to reach the finish with its two single-seaters. However, it still lacks a lot of speed to challenge any team other than Marussia.
Kamui Kobayashi (No. 10) – 18th
After overtaking Jules Bianchi in the last lap, the Japanese driver had his 17th place taken away due to the checkered flag being waved too early. A three-stop strategy created a funny situation which he recounts: « It gave us some interesting moments, especially with Vettel who I was told I could overtake because he was in fuel-saving mode and on used tires while I was on new soft tires in my third stint. I heard he wasn’t too happy but compared to him, at that moment, I had the pace to widen the gap and I had to do it so as not to compromise our plan.
He hopes that his team will progress at the next Grand Prix: « We have a good package coming to Spain, and we are determined to close the gap. »
Marcus Ericsson (No. 9) – 20th
After struggling with oversteer in his car throughout the race, the Swedish rookie was content with just bringing his car to the finish. He believes that returning to Europe should be beneficial for him: « In Spain, I will be back on a circuit that I know really well. As a rookie, this is obviously good for me, and with the time spent at the factory and in the simulator by then, as well as the new elements available in Barcelona, I am sure we will be stronger there. »
