Saturday: Bianchi and Marussia were hoping for a bit more from the qualifications
If the new updates on the MR03 in Barcelona have proven effective, Jules Bianchi hoped for a little more from the qualifications, with the Frenchman making a mistake in his fastest lap. A similar sense of optimism comes from Max Chilton, who is delighted with the progress made.
Max Chilton (No. 4) – 19th and 18th [17th on the grid]
The Briton managed to comfortably outpace his teammate by almost 6 tenths, and he is delighted with his performance: “I am really very happy. I’m not sure we found the balance as desired, but in the end, my second fast lap was good and it happened when it counted. This session has shown that we’ve made a step forward with our new developments: there is no doubt that we have come closer to the Saubers – and the fight for Q2 – and that we’ve widened the gap with the Caterhams.”
Jules Bianchi (No. 17) – 20th and 19th [18th on the grid]
The Frenchman made a mistake that cost him precious time, but he prefers to focus on the positives and the progress made with the goal of confirming tomorrow in the race: « What a pity. My second fast lap was really good and I had gained a lot of time in the first two sectors, but I braked too late at turn 10 and went wide. I was pushing too hard, but we had a good car and today we were close to a spot in Q2. As always, we have to focus on the positives, and today we had confirmation that we have made a step forward towards the Saubers. »
