Saturday: Caterham Adrift in Barcelona

Marcus Ericsson (No. 9) – 22nd and 20th [19th on the grid]

For the first time this season, the Swedish rookie outpaces his experienced Japanese teammate during the qualifiers. According to Ericsson, the Malaysian car seemed particularly difficult to handle: « The behavior of the car is unpredictable over almost the entire lap of the track, which makes it difficult to complete a clean lap. »

While being realistic, he retains a small hope: « We need to focus on having a clean race, maintaining the greatly improved reliability we have had since China and seizing all the opportunities that come our way. »

Kamui Kobayashi (n°10) – 21st and 21st [20th on the grid]

The Japanese driver struggled throughout the weekend with a car lacking grip. He approached qualifying knowing it would be difficult. He recounts his Q1: « We went out to do two single laps on mediums, and the first one was good, but on my second fast lap on the second stint, I lost some time behind Bianchi and had the same kind of balance issues that I had during the various practice sessions, and I just couldn’t extract more from the car. »
