Sunday: End of Caterham’s ordeal with Kobayashi retiring and Ericsson finishing last

Kamui Kobayashi (No. 10) – Retirement

The Japanese driver had a normal start but quickly had to let Maldonado and Vergne pass. Moreover, he had the same traction problems as earlier in the weekend.

After fitting a new set of tires, he even started gaining some time on Bianchi. Unfortunately for him, his race ended prematurely as he explains: « On the 34th lap, I had a scary moment when taking the first turn as my front left brake failed and I barely managed to avoid the wall. That was the end of my race and of a challenging weekend.»

Marcus Ericsson (#9) – 20th

The young Swede nearly got eliminated at the beginning of the race after a robust overtaking attempt by Maldonado, during which the two cars touched quite hard.

His Formula 1 car was still as difficult to drive with understeer in fast corners and oversteer in slow sections. He recounts the end of his race: We went for a long stint with the second set of mediums, using them until the 40th lap at the time of the second stop, then I switched to a set of hard tires to go until the checkered flag. From that point on, I focused on reaching the finish to close out a challenging race weekend.
