Thursday: Hamilton and Rosberg calmly prepare for Mercedes
The Mercedes drivers have not quite finished their adjustments. But they are still ahead of their competitors, although the gap has narrowed as announced earlier in the week.
Nico Rosberg (No. 6) – 2nd and 20th
The German is satisfied with his first day in the Principality, which is his home Grand Prix: « It was a very good day. Apparently, we are still fast here, even though our competitors seem a bit closer to us than in Barcelona. »
However, he preferred not to take risks on the wet track during FP2. He states: « I still need to find the perfect set-up, so we still have work to do tomorrow to be ready for the weekend. »
Lewis Hamilton (#44) – 1st and 2nd
The new world championship leader is very happy to return to Monaco. He considers this circuit as one of the coolest, in his own words. He hopes to win here, something he hasn’t done since 2008.
He quietly prepared for the qualifying and the race: « It was really nice here today. I had a good first session and I was happy to be able to do a few laps on the dry this afternoon which was a big plus. I feel relatively ready for Saturday, there’s still a bit of work to do but there’s still tomorrow to take care of that and finish all the preparations for the weekend. »
