Sunday: Hülkenberg allows Force India to score big points
If Sergio Pérez saw his race end much earlier than hoped, Nico Hülkenberg gave the Sahara Force India team a reason to smile by finishing in 5th place after withstanding heavy pressure at the end of the race.
Nico Hülkenberg (No. 27) – 5th
The German driver had to fend off attacks from Magnussen, Button, Räikkönen, and Bottas at the end of the race, but he managed well and scored big points: 10 points today, it’s a great reward after such a difficult race. The last twenty laps were really tough because my super-softs were at the end of their life and it was hard to hold off the cars behind me and stay away from the barriers. There were several moments where I brushed the barrier, but I survived and managed to keep my 5th place.
Sergio Pérez (No. 11) – Retirement
The Mexican saw his race come to an end after only a few hectometers and he finds it a shame not to have been able to take advantage of a good car: « I was battling with Nico, who was in front, and I took the corner normally, I was on the racing line and ahead of Jenson when he hit my rear wheel and that made me spin between the rails. I didn’t expect him to be there because there wasn’t enough space for another car here. It’s really unfortunate. »
But Pérez remains confident and hopes to be more performant and lucky during the next race: « The car seemed much better here compared to Spain, as demonstrated by Nico’s result. It’s a very positive sign for Montreal. »
