Sunday: Both Saubers finish in the barriers in Monaco

While he seemed well on his way to scoring valuable points, Esteban Gutiérrez made a mistake at the Rascasse by hitting the rail, thus ending his race. Before him, Adrian Sutil had done the same by failing to control his Sauber at the exit of the tunnel.

Sunday: Both Saubers finish in the barriers in Monaco

Esteban Gutiérrez (No. 21) – Retired

The Mexican was in the points before making a mistake at Rascasse, which ended his race, much to his regret: « Unfortunately, I didn’t manage to finish the race. It was probably the toughest mistake of my career. I hit the rail at Rascasse on the entry of the corner and spun, and my race was over. Today, we had a good chance to pick up some points. […] It’s very disappointing. I really want to say sorry to everyone in the team because they did a fantastic job today. »

Adrian Sutil (No. 99) – Retirement

While the start was good, the incident between Button and Perez was costly for the German driver: « It’s a shame that my race ended so early. I had a good start. At turn 5, one of the drivers spun, and as I arrived, many cars braked in front of me. I damaged my front wing, which forced me to pit. I found myself almost last at the back of the pack, but I was able to gain places lap by lap. »

But the worst was yet to come as he went off the track, without injury to himself, at the Nouvelle Chicane: « Unfortunately, coming out of the tunnel, I made a braking error, losing the rear and hitting the barrier. I am clearly very disappointed and sorry for the whole team. »
