Sunday: Vergne and Kvyat retire for Toro Rosso
While Daniil Kvyat and Jean-Eric Vergne seemed well on their way to scoring points for the small Scuderia, both men ultimately saw their race end due to the same problem, the exhausts of the STR7.
Jean-Eric Vergne (No. 25) – Retirement
While he was racing, the Frenchman had to retire due to an exhaust problem on his Toro Rosso: « The race was going well, the pace was really encouraging, I was saving my tires, and the strategy seemed to be right. Then, my engineer informed me of the drive-through penalty for being released in a dangerous manner, and eventually, we had an exhaust problem that ended my race. It’s really a shame! »
But Vergne remains optimistic and is resolutely focused on the next race in Canada: « But let’s turn the page now and concentrate on the next race in Montreal, where I will once again do everything to be at my best, achieve another great qualifying session, and hope to score points. »
Daniil Kvyat (no.26) – Retirement
While he was in the points, the Russian also suffered from an exhaust problem forcing him to retire: It’s disappointing to have had to retire today, especially because we seemed competitive all weekend and we had a good chance of finishing in the points here. I was able to maintain my position at the start and even climb to 8th place before having to retire. Unfortunately, these kinds of things happen and I will now focus on the next race.
