Magnussen doesn’t see the point in discussing with Räikkönen
After multiple incidents and clashes between them since the beginning of the F1 season, Kimi Räikkönen and Kevin Magnussen still have not sorted things out. Their skirmish in Monaco sparked a lot of commentary, but the Dane refutes the idea of a chosen rivalry between the two men.
In Monaco, the races of Kimi Räikkönen and Kevin Magnussen were most frustrating. The Ferrari driver finished the Grand Prix in a distant twelfth place after a collision with Max Chilton’s Marussia and an optimistic overtaking attempt on the McLaren of the Danish driver that ended in the wall at the Grand Hôtel hairpin.
Chilton recently stated that this incident cost him a place in the top ten: « It’s frustrating because he was having a good race and I think I could have made it into the top ten as well. »
But the other “victim” of Iceman in the principality, Kevin Magnussen, was a bit less concerned and finds little interest in going to explain with his rival about his on-track behavior: « There really isn’t much to say on the subject. I’m convinced that we both understand what happened about these various incidents, and that we will learn and react accordingly. »
For the young Dane, who is competing in his first season in the discipline, there is no reason to talk about intentional rivalry between the two men, even if their successive clashes, which took place in Malaysia, Bahrain, and Monaco, might suggest otherwise: « It’s not something we premeditated. They’re just race incidents, » he insisted on clarifying.
On his side, the taciturn Räikkönen seems somewhat annoyed by the words of his rival, who accused him of making contact in his overtaking attempt in Monaco: « He can say what he wants in the press, it’s his choice. Sometimes these kinds of situations happen. I tried to overtake him, but I didn’t hit him. I couldn’t turn more than that. I just bumped him when I tried to reverse because he was behind me. I had to push him a bit while reversing, but he can say what he wants about it. That’s his problem. »
