Saturday: Marussia drivers narrowly miss Q2
Jules Bianchi and Max Chilton hoped to enter Q2 during qualifying in Montreal, and while the Briton was close, it was more complicated for the Frenchman who encountered a problem with his Marussia. However, both men are confident for the race.
Max Chilton (No. 4) – 19th and 18th
The Briton hoped to ride the current good momentum of the Russian team but failed to make it into Q2: « We had several positive days, and we hoped to put everything together for a good qualification, which we started in the first stint. It was a good lap, there was clearly room for improvement, but the red flag didn’t allow it. We have to look on the bright side because it’s a new sign of our progress. »
Jules Bianchi (No. 17) – 18th and 19th
The Frenchman is disappointed not to have been able to fully prepare before the qualifiers but remains satisfied with the performance of his Marussia: « It’s a disappointing way to end our qualifiers because with the little track time on Friday, we were back during FP3. The car feels very good here this weekend, which is nice to see because it shows that the improvements have helped to master a track that usually doesn’t suit us. »
Bianchi finished behind his teammate because he couldn’t defend his chances at the end of Q1 due to a problem: « My first stint was good considering the little time spent in the car with low fuel and the super-softs this weekend. I didn’t have the chance to improve in the second stint because we had a problem with the car, and then the red flag came out and no one could improve. »
