Sunday: Massa in the wall, Bottas in the points, Williams misses a great opportunity
On the evening of the Canadian Grand Prix, disappointment reigns in the Williams camp. Felipe Massa, a podium contender, ended his race in a violent crash following a frightening collision with Pérez's Force India. Behind, Valtteri Bottas salvages a few points.
Valtteri Bottas (No. 77) – 7th:
After a difficult Sunday, the Finn secures a seventh place, as in Monaco: « It wasn’t our day, really. The start of the race was fine, but Red Bull was a bit stronger than expected, so we were fighting for the fourth position. »
Bottas blames his strategy to explain his poor position in the race: « We need to review the strategy on our second stop because I didn’t come out as I should have. I was then in full traffic, stuck behind the Force India, which led to engine and brake overheating, and I had to do everything to finish the race while saving my car as best as I could. »
Felipe Massa (n)19) – Retirement:
First non-Mercedes driver to lead a race this season, Felipe Massa was battling for the podium when a reckless move by Sergio Pérez sent both drivers crashing into the wall. Fortunately unharmed from this terrible collision, Massa struggles to digest his disappointment: « I was one of the fastest guys on the track, so we lost a lot of points today. I am happy to be here without any problems, but I am very disappointed with what happened with Pérez, and also with the pit stop, because I think we could have fought for the victory today. »
The Pauliste prefers to look forward and stay positive for the future: « But this shows that we have a good car, and I am convinced that the next race will be better. »
