Sunday: Both Marussia cars in the wall on the first lap!
After their strong race in Monaco, the Marussia team did not get past the first lap in Montreal. Max Chilton, struggling at the first chicane, dashed the hopes of his teammate Jules Bianchi. The Briton will be penalized three grid positions at the next Grand Prix following this mishap.
Max Chilton (No. 4) – Retirement:
The Briton experienced the first retirement of his career this Sunday: « A disappointing end to a very promising weekend. The incident between Jules and me ended not only our own races but also the team’s, which is very sad for all the guys after making a lot of progress again. »
The first few meters had started well for Chilton: « I had a good start, away from the cars behind in turn 1, I was following the line in turn 2, then we got close in turn 3. The accident was very unfortunate for both of us and after a good race in Monaco, this is a race to forget here. »
Jules Bianchi (No.17) – Retirement:
After scoring his first points in Monaco, the Frenchman’s race stopped very quickly in Canada. Enough to be frustrated for the Marussia driver: « I got a good start, kept everyone who was behind me, and it’s clear that Max and I were racing each other in turns 2 and 3. I braked in turn 3 and there was an impact, after which I found myself in the wall with a heavily damaged car. I’m disappointed for the whole team because once again we had a good weekend. »
Bianchi prefers to forget this Sunday and look ahead: « Now, we need to move forward and give the team a better reward in Austria. »
