Sunday: The performance of the Ferraris is not sufficient
Even though the two Ferrari drivers finished in the points in Canada, Alonso in 6th position and Räikkönen in 10th place, there is no sense of satisfaction among the Reds who want to fight for better results.
Fernando Alonso (No. 14) – 6th
The Spaniard finishes in 6th place but knows he benefited from his rivals’ problems to finish so well positioned: « Looking at the crazy end of the race, today we scored some “lucky” points but we can’t be satisfied with our final position because our goal is to do better than that. »
His race wasn’t very good because his Ferrari wasn’t always consistent and fast: « At the beginning, my pace wasn’t good and I wasn’t happy with the balance of my car. Then, in the second stint, when the track started to improve, we found a good rhythm and managed to catch up with the front group. But we weren’t fast enough to get involved in the fight. »
But Alonso remains satisfied and wants to focus on the positive, the progress made thanks to the new developments introduced in Montreal: « This weekend, we made good progress, particularly in aerodynamics, but others have also improved, and now all we have to do is keep working to be as well-prepared as possible for the upcoming races. »
Kimi Räikkönen (No. 7) – 10th
The Finn expected a difficult Canadian Grand Prix and that’s what he got: « We knew it wouldn’t be an easy race because on this circuit, we’re not fast enough on the straights and we also have issues in slow corners. Furthermore, today I never had a clear track ahead of me, for one reason or another I was always behind other cars. »
He was not fully satisfied with his Ferrari F14 T and did what he could: « At the beginning, I had some issues with the brakes and the car’s behavior was not consistent. Then after a few laps, the tires performed better, but with some ups and downs. For long laps, I was stuck behind Kvyat’s Toro Rosso, which cost me precious time. »
