Sunday: Vergne places 8th with his Toro Rosso in Canada
After several challenging races, Jean-Eric Vergne managed to bounce back in Canada by finishing the Grand Prix in 8th place. The Frenchman is satisfied with his race. His teammate, Daniil Kvyat, wasn't as fortunate, having to retire due to a transmission problem.
Jean-Eric Vergne (No. 25) – 8th
The Frenchman wanted to congratulate his former teammate, Daniel Ricciardo, for his victory in Canada: « First of all, I’d like to congratulate Daniel on his victory! It’s his first, but I’m sure it won’t be his last. He’s a fantastic person, a very fast driver, and I have great respect for him. Bravo Daniel! »
JEV is also satisfied with his race, where he had no issues and was able to finish in the points: « As for me, I’m really happy because I feel like I gave my best today. It was a good race, maybe the best of my F1 career so far, not in terms of result but I think everything went well and we finally scored some points. I was able to gain a place against Alonso after a good start and managed to keep Magnussen behind at the end, handling well what was a difficult race. »
He is pleased with the work done in Montreal but expects even better for the next race in Austria: « The team did a very good job all weekend, where we worked very well to have the best possible car. We are now looking forward to the upgrades that will come for the Austrian Grand Prix and I am convinced that we will improve our speed and achieve better results. »
Daniil Kvyat (no.26) – Retirement
The young Russian did not experience the expected race and had to retire due to a transmission issue: « It was a disappointing end to a difficult weekend here in Canada. Even if the qualifying did not go very well for me, I hoped to perform well in the race. At the start, I lost a place, and then I made a mistake in the first corner when my tires were a bit cold, and I lost a lot of time. At that moment, my race was already compromised, but I continued to push. I then had to stop on the track after suddenly losing power. »
