Difficulties are piling up for Kimi Räikkönen

Kimi Räikkönen’s return to the reds was supposed to mean victories and podiums, but after seven Grand Prix and not a single podium, his disillusionment is exacerbating his lack of self-confidence. The 2007 world champion finds the comparison with his current teammate, Fernando Alonso, increasingly difficult.

Despite a good first part of qualifying in Canada, where he played on equal terms with the “Bull of Asturias,” the Finn finished nearly four-tenths behind the Spaniard. Over the Grand Prix duration, he held his ground during the first third of the race and finished nearly forty seconds behind Fernando Alonso.

Kimi Räikkönen estimates that his car evolves as the race progresses and that it is increasingly difficult to control: “It is difficult to understand what is happening, the balance changes with the driving,” he stated to Autosport before continuing: “On one lap, the car is difficult to control and a few laps later, without apparent reason, the behavior improves, as if the tires were working better. We need to examine the data and understand it. We need to keep looking for where the problem comes from and improve the car’s balance so that its behavior is the same on every lap.”

The Finn did not expect such a challenge upon returning to Ferrari; the dreams of fighting for first place in the drivers’ world championship are far behind him, but he must prepare for each race as if he could win it while eliminating the difficulties that arise.
