Sunday: Bianchi and Chilton make Marussia F1’s strategy work
Marussia had a good race. Nevertheless, more work will be needed to catch up to Sauber's level of performance.
Jules Bianchi (No. 17) – 15th
Thanks to a one-stop strategy, the Nice driver finished in a good 15th place. He recounts the unfolding of his afternoon: « I had a good start by keeping everyone [his direct competitors] behind me until it was no longer possible to maintain the same pace on softs as Kobayashi on super-softs, who was able to overtake me. We had to keep faith in our strategy by making the primes last as long as possible, in the end it was 40 laps. Everything worked well because I was able to catch up very quickly with the super-softs, overtake, and put some distance between us. At the end of the race, I was also catching up with Grosjean but unfortunately, I didn’t have enough time. »
Max Chilton (No. 4) – 17th
After retiring for the first time in Canada, the young Englishman somewhat redeemed himself by running a race somewhat like his teammate by making only one pit stop. He finished 17th, just two seconds behind Kobayashi, but was satisfied with this result: « Overall, I am quite happy with my 17th place after starting at the back of the grid. It was a positive conclusion to this weekend and we are now getting used to aiming at the cars in front of us rather than those behind, so we need to make up some ground for the next race to get back on track. »
