Lotus F1 is working to close the gap with the other teams
The Lotus team worked on its weak point during the recent tests at Silverstone, namely the slow corners.
After modifying the flat floor and the front wing for the Silverstone Grand Prix, Lotus continues to develop its wing, which will be further modified starting from the German Grand Prix. « We will have a new front wing, which is quite a significant improvement, an update to the cooling system, and other small bodywork developments to increase downforce. » explains technical director Nick Chester on Lotusf1team.com.
Only one week will pass between the next two Grand Prix and although the circuits are different, Nick Chester believes the updates will work better for Hungary. The Hungaroring should suit us better because it mainly consists of medium-speed corners. It’s a Monaco-type circuit, with high downforce and a full load of 55%, Nick Chester thinks this track will suit the E22 better. It is not a circuit known for power but it is a track with high downforce, which is better for us.
Romain Grosjean thinks that the work during the last tests is positive. He states on Lotusf1team.com: “We have worked hard to improve performance in slow corners, so Hockenheim will be a good test to measure our progress.”
The work was focused on aerodynamics and Romain Grosjean wants the work done to help bridge part of the deficit. “On Tuesday, during testing, I didn’t drive, but I was there to see what we were working on. The goal was to complete a comprehensive program on aerodynamics.”
The Franco-Swiss concluded: « It’s a bit early to say what will come of it, but it seems positive. At this stage of the new regulations, each session is important and helps maintain a constant development curve. »
