Saturday: Big accident for Hamilton but Rosberg on pole for Mercedes AMG F1
The day for Mercedes was marked by a major accident involving Lewis Hamilton. The German team can only console themselves with having secured pole position with the fastest car on the grid, even without FRIC.
Nico Rosberg (No.6) – 1st and 1st
After a difficult start in qualifying due to adjustments in the absence of FRIC, the German manages to secure pole position in the absence of his teammate. He declares: « The last fast lap was really good. So I am really happy to start first here for our home Grand Prix. But I can’t be too satisfied today because of the accident Lewis was involved in, I’m glad he’s okay. I would have preferred it to be a normal fight for pole with him. But I’m sure he’ll fly through the pack since our car is still the fastest. »
Lewis Hamilton (No. 44) – 2nd and 16th [15th on the grid]
The Englishman recounts an accident he suffered: « I braked at the same place as usual and suddenly lost pressure in the brakes: I was surprised, and the failure caused the car to spin into the wall. It wasn’t very pleasant when it happened. You just have to take your hands off the steering wheel and brace for impact, but fortunately, everything is fine. The legs are a bit bruised, but I’ll be ready for the race tomorrow: nothing will stop me from getting into the car. »
Furthermore, he specifies that the car was fantastic thanks to the work of his engineers. He therefore plans to make a comeback with his trademark style, as he did in Austria and Silverstone.
