Saturday: Daniil Kvyat places Toro Rosso in the top 10
Once again, it is Daniil Kvyat who performed best during the qualifications in Germany. Thus, the Russian will start 8th, while Jean-Eric Vergne could do no better than 13th.
Daniil Kvyat (No. 26) – 11th and 8th
If the final result is good, the qualifying sessions were not easy for the Toro Rosso rookie: « I am happy with my qualifying today, even though the conditions were peculiar and tricky. We had to stay focused and pay attention to all the different factors, including tire management. The team did a very good job adapting to the different conditions, especially when compared to our usual competitors. »
Jean-Eric Vergne (No. 25) – 12th and 13th
The passage to Q3 was very tight and the Frenchman found himself on the wrong side of the barrier: « It was really very close as you can see that a tenth was enough to make the cut for Q3 or not. In general, I think it was a good qualifying session. I used worn tires for my first run in Q2 while those ahead of me used a new set, which made the difference. »
Nevertheless, he is very confident for tomorrow’s race, especially if it rains: « If we look at the weather forecasts, which indicate the possibility of rain and cooler temperatures, having more sets of new tires puts me in a favorable position to achieve a good result tomorrow, even if I start 13th. »
